Enriching The Lives Of Our Youth Through Education

Nathaniel Sabir Memorial Scholarship Fund (NSMSF) Mission Statement

Supporting quality educational institutions and providing support measures to our students is crucial to their success. The NSMSF offers monetary contributions as well as educationally motivating activities to schools and students to enhance the focus on their goals to succeed.

We Have a Passion to Help

About the Namesake

Brother Nathaniel Sabir was born, raised, and educated in Philadelphia, PA. On July 13, 2002, Allah with His Infinite Mercy, called our brother back to Him. At that time, he held the position of secretary-treasurer with the Laborers’ Local 332 Union.

In addition, he was a member of the executive board of Laborers’ Local 332 and served as a delegate of the Laborers’ District Council of Philadelphia and Vicinity. Brother Sabir’s love for Islam and education led him through many endeavors to propagate support for both.

Many good deeds, from a heartfelt concern for caring for the elderly to feeding an entire homeless shelter, were attributed to Nate. He had a very kind and charitable heart and took pleasure in helping others as best he could. He strongly felt that all children should have the opportunity for quality education and be able to have a book in their hands.

About the Fund

The NSMSF was founded in memory of the aspirations and pious deeds of Brother Nathaniel Sabir. Only a week after his passing, on July 20, 2002, the idea of establishing a fund in his memory was introduced. Much support for this endeavor began.

Since then supporters, along with friends and family have all worked diligently to continue this humble and kind response to the loss of our Brother Nate. We share a special appreciation to Laborers’ Local 332 and many organized unions of Philadelphia and vicinity for their continued loyalty to our cause.

Beloved Brother Nathaniel Sabir

The NSMSF, a 501(c)3 organization, has helped many students in their attempts for quality education. Annually we sponsor an essay contest designed to stimulate creative thinking among students. The event is offered to students from grades 4th through College levels.

Since the inception of the fund, over $200,000 has been awarded to educational institutions and students as incentives to help them achieve their goals. These awards were distributed regardless of race, creed, or color. Another part of our annual events presentations is a Tri-State Spelling Bee competition which has become quite popular.

Many of our youth have progressed to professional careers, including doctors, pharmacists, and teachers. Most important and admired of the services previous recipients have offered is their enthusiastic return as guest speakers and role models at our annual fundraising banquets.
